Overview
Commissioned by a family foundation in Hong Kong, I am responsible for conducting research on the life planning education (LPE) in Hong Kong, aiming to analyze the status quo and potential gaps in existing LPE services.
1. Data Collection and Analysis
Documents reviewed include official documents, reports, surveys, and evaluations conducted by NGOs, and academic papers.
30 LPE programmes offered by local NGOs or institutes have been randomly sampled for analysis of their intervention modes and characteristics. Data is organized and categorized into a comprehensive list.

2. Theoretical Foundations
Life Planning Model
The Life Planning Model is used as the theoretical foundation of the report. In this model, life planning is divided into three components – 1. Self-Understanding and Development; 2. Career Exploration, and; 3. Career Planning and Management.

Social Cognitive Theory
The Social Cognitive Theory suggested that “individual”, “environment”, and “behaviour” are three factors that interact and influence each other, which can be combined with the Life Planning Model.

Process
Final Deliverable(s)
The final 9,000-word report utilizes a custom-designed LPE Model that is created specifically for this research.

It is found that the current LPE interventions under the formal curriculum are primarily career-oriented and limited to one-way information dissemination, lacking in addressing the personal development aspects of students. NGOs have attempted to fill this gap by offering extra-curricular interventions that are more personalized and flexible, but there is still room for improvement in the below aspects:
Personalized and experiential LPE activities
Self-knowledge requiring further recognition
Up-to-date career support
